After-Hours Emergencies
Urgent vs. Emergency Care: How to Tell the Difference
At Crown Town Animal Hospital, we offer same-day urgent care for pets who need to be seen quickly but are not experiencing a life-threatening emergency. Understanding the difference between urgent and emergency care can help you make the right decision when your pet is feeling unwell.
When to Seek Emergency Care:
Your pet should be taken to an emergency facility immediately if experiencing any of the following:
-
Difficulty breathing or choking
-
Seizures or collapse
-
Trauma, such as being hit by a car or falling from a height
-
Uncontrolled bleeding
-
Ingestion of a toxic substance, including chocolate, xylitol, medications, or other poisons
-
A swollen, firm abdomen with retching or unproductive vomiting (possible bloat)
-
Inability to urinate, especially in male cats
-
Loss of consciousness or extreme lethargy
-
Labor that is not progressing in a pregnant pet
If an emergency happens after hours, we recommend you seek the services of the after-hour emergency pet clinic listed below. They will coordinate care with us, and we will provide necessary follow-up care.
